Salmon Leather: A Sustainable Luxury Born from “Mottainai”
Salmon Leather Collection

A New Nordic Luxury Born from the Sea
Introducing to Japan for the first time:
sustainable luxury from Sweden, rooted in Nordic craftsmanship and innovation.
This collection is crafted from salmon leather made by upcycling discarded salmon skin, transforming what would otherwise be waste into a material that is both beautiful and exceptionally strong.
Infused with Nordic nature, artisanal craftsmanship, and circular design philosophy, salmon leather carries a quiet story of the sea. With every use, that story deepens gently in your hands.
What Is Salmon Leather?
Salmon leather is gaining global attention as a next-generation eco leather, prized for its lightness, strength, and refined beauty.
Salmon skin is said to be up to nine times stronger than cow leather, despite being remarkably thin and lightweight. This strength comes from its unique cross-hatch fiber structure, where fibers intersect tightly, creating a material that is both supple and surprisingly durable.
The Unique Qualities of Salmon Leather
Light yet exceptionally strong
Developed from salmon that survive the harsh Nordic seas, resulting in outstanding durability.
One-of-a-kind scale pattern
A refined texture with natural depth and a subtle, silk-like sheen—no two pieces are ever the same.
Beautiful aging over time
The leather develops richer character with use, becoming uniquely yours.
Sustainable by nature
Upcycled from seafood byproducts, contributing to a zero-waste, circular economy.
No fish odor
Thanks to an advanced tanning process, salmon leather is completely free from any fish smell.
In Japan, salmon is traditionally regarded as a symbol of prosperity, protection, and success. The idea of reviving discarded marine byproducts aligns deeply with both Nordic sustainability values and Japanese cultural sensibilities—a connection Circuliv proudly embraces.
Discover Nordic Luxury
Circuliv has partnered with the Stockholm-based luxury brand Kristian Eddé.
Founder and designer Daniel believes that “true luxury is not only about beauty, but about intention, innovation, and social impact.” His philosophy resonated deeply with us and inspired our decision to bring this brand to Japan.

A Brand Leading Marine Innovation
Kristian Eddé participates as a specialist partner in the MAREFINE project, led by Sweden’s national research institute RISE. This initiative focuses on transforming previously undervalued marine side streams—such as fish skin—into high-value, circular materials.
The brand also contributes to the development of advanced treatments that enhance water resistance and durability, while maintaining flexibility and strength.
Nothing from the sea should be wasted.
Resources must be carried forward into the future.
This philosophy lies at the heart of Nordic sustainability—and takes physical form in salmon leather.
Crafted for the Discerning Collector
For those who value substance over trends
All wallets and leather goods by Kristian Eddé are entirely handmade in their Stockholm atelier. Visiting the workshop reveals the brand’s dedication: each sewing machine carefully explained, every detail refined, and an unmistakable pride in uncompromising craftsmanship.
Every cut and stitch carries the story of the sea and the quiet beauty of the Nordics.
This is not fashion made for trends—but products that embody craftsmanship, circularity, and timeless aesthetics.
Why Circuliv Brings This to Japan
Circuliv exists to connect Nordic nature with Japanese aesthetics, and to propose a way of living that values owning fewer things—chosen carefully, and cherished for a long time.
Our encounter with salmon leather was a natural extension of this philosophy.
Born from the sea,
Shaped by Nordic hands,
Transformed into beautiful objects for everyday life.
We deliver not only the product—but the story behind it, thoughtfully and respectfully, to Japan.
